Bob Marley and the Wailers: Jaap Edenhal, Amsterdam, Netherlands, 1976

So the show I’m sharing with you today is very special.  Why?  Because it is a newly released show that has never circulated in the 35 years since it’s taping.  I received this show yesterday from my very good friend Fred from France who owns voiceofthesufferers.free.fr.  According to Fred, the show was leaked to the web 2 days ago by the original taper, a Dutchman by the name of Hans “Madtaper” Devente.  We owe this taper a huge debt of gratitude not only because he shared with us an historic show, the audio of which most never even knew existed.  But he also performed a substantial upgrade to the audio to make it quite listenable.

According to his file notes, which are included in the download, this was Bob Marley’s very first appearance in the Netherlands.  My friend Martin Huisman, also of the Netherlands, has written extensively on Marley’s performances in the Netherlands.

  5. Long time ago I had a friend whos parents had the restaurant at the Jaap Eden hal. So thats how i though i could not afford the tickets went to every concert there. As an 18 year old student I realy enjoyed it.Afterwards i am one of the few who saw it.

  6. WOW – absolutely incredible this is now surfacing!! This being my highschool final exams year we were there with a couple of friends – an extatic experience now relived! THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU !!!!!

  7. amazing internet….just watched the Marley documentary and wanted to see when and what is there about his 1976 concert that i went to see at the age of 16. Well it was recorded 37 years ago and you can hear it below…!!. At that time I lived, with my parents, around the corner of the venue, The Jaap Edenhal. An ice hokey stadium…and I had my ways to sneak in, before anyone else. Help out with a friendly roadie, get on stage just pretending to work there, or what ever. Just hanging around…At some stage, I stood eye to eye with a man, looking like I never seen before. He had a lot of messy hear and looking wild and absolutly different…Outside the stadium he played soccer and he owned a red BMW..state plate BMW 1. (Bob Marley Wailers) I before that time I only heard ‘No woman no cry’ on the radio a few times, never smoked pot, grass or ganja..Bob jammed Amsterdam that night. The Edenhal was steaming with ganja and the show was great. Bob Marley turned into a world famous music star, and after his death in ’81, he became a holy man around the world for all the kids and people who suffer or just want to identify to his revolution of love and jah. In the most remote and bizare places, around the world, you can still see his pictures, hear his redemption songs in small reggae bars and smell the ganja…Good vibrations. Bob Marley!
