There is very little known about the tape that circulates as Bob Marley Dub-Congo Mixes. It contains 25 demos and alternate takes of Wailers’ tracks spanning the entirety of their career. These tracks are presented in lossless (FLAC) audio in excellent sound quality. It is always amazing to me how many of these recordings are preserved so pristeenly over the past 30+ years.
Of note is the appearance of dub reggae legend Augustus Pablo on the “Redder Than Red” demos. Most people associate the melodica-playing Horace Swaby with the name ‘Augustus Pablo,’ however, according to my good friend and noted author David Katz, several people assumed this name in the early 1970s, including keyboardist Glen Adams and several other members of The Upsetters, and vocalist and keyboardist Lloyd Charmers (Solid Foundation: An Oral History of Reggae, 2003).

Anyway, a fantastic blog and a superlative work. Congratulations, Raver!!!!
Thanks for the comment Javier. Which files are missing?
Tracks 23, 24 & 25.
thank You.
I just checked the file. I only have 22 tracks. I don’t know why there were 25 listed. I only have 22.
There is only 22 listed. My download was missing track number 4.
Yes, I made the correction to the tracklist. Try download again. I just downloaded and got a track 4. Many thanks.
I find it very hard to think, that these tracks were recorded back in the day, with the Upsetter in the studio. You can hear pops and crackling on several of the tracks, making me to believe that who ever added the instruments did so over a record, and not over the master tapes. I have equipment which I can use to add reverb and echo to tracks. As you mention not much is known about these recordings…
Yes, I could find almost nothing about these demos. It is quite possible, if not probable, that these are demo tracks that were overdubbed later. We just don’t know. Good tunes though. Thanks for supporting.
