We here at the MIDNIGHT RAVER BLOG continue to conduct extensive research in order to add to the existing archive of Peter Tosh performances, interviews, appearances, and other media. Part of this archiving effort involves bringing to light Peter Tosh performances that are not currently documented in the archive.
We previously located a concert review for a Tosh performance at the Gaillard Municipal Auditorium in Charleston, South Carolina on August 1, 1981. We also identified the previously unknown venue that Tosh performed at in Philadelphia, PA on March 6, 1979: The Walnut Street Theatre at 825 Walnut Street, Philadelphia, PA 19106. In addition, we have also been able to correct many mis-dated shows throughout multiple years.
Here we present a concert review published in the Milwaukee Journal on February 27, 1979 which critiques Tosh’s performance the previous night (February 27, 1979) at the Palms night club in Milwaukee, WI. There is currently no published record of this show that we could find.
The reviewer, Daniel P. Kelly, discusses a crowd of 600 people, angry over having to wait until 11:15 p.m. for Tosh to take the stage, and an even angrier Tosh, who “stalked” the Palms stage and “spat out” songs. Acccording to the review, Tosh, backed by Sly, Robbie, and The Tamlins, played a 70-minute set which opened with “400 Years.”
