Bob Marley: A rhythm that played peacemaker (Guardian, May 20, 1978)

Included here is Robin Denselow’s summation of her trip to Jamaica in April 1978 for the One Love Peace Concert.  The article is interesting for several reasons.   We find Lee Perry dancing crazily in the Black Ark studio, just months before he burns it to the ground in a psychosis.  We find Bob Marley meeting with Claudie Massop in his 56 Hope Road office immediately prior to the concert, bullet holes still in the plaster walls from the assassination attempt 2-years prior.  We find Don Taylor contemplating severing ties between Marley and Island Records just as Marley prepares to depart on the 1978 North American tour, a tour which Taylor calls “make or break” for Marley.  We also find out that immediately following his history-making performance at the OLPC, Marley flies to his home in Miami.
