The biggest international reggae star on the planet right now is someone you may have never heard of. You hear me? He’s been performing for many years and has played for millions – tens of millions – of people in every corner of the globe. I must admit that I don’t really vibe with his music, but it is obvious that I am in the minority. He is a force the likes of which we have not seen since Bob Marley – this artist’s hero and inspiration by the way.
He is currently prohibited from performing in his native Côte d’Ivoire. He is persona non grata in Senegal. He has been living in exile in Bamako, Mali for the past 5 years.
I am speaking, of course, of Tiken Jah Fakoly, “Africa’s reggae legend in the making.”
This short set is the best 15 minutes from his massive 2008 concert in Paris.
