Hugh Mundell “Little Short Man” 12 inch (Rockers)

“Little Short Man” was arranged and produced by Augustus Pablo for Hugh Mundell.  Released in 1978/79 on the Pablo’s Rockers, the 12″ vinyl 45 is the B-side to Jah Levi’s “False Rumour,” a track with a distinguishible dancehall sound to it.  Jah Levi was Mundell’s alias for performing tunes that did not adhere to the deeply spiritual roots and culture vibe of the work that he is renowned for.
The riddim used by Pablo was originally laid down as “Red Blood” by Vin Gordon at Studio One.  The “False Rumour” riddim is a deejay cut of “Rockers Rock” (Real Rock Rhythm).
“Little Short Man” is a reference to His Imperial Majesty Haile Selassie I, Conquering Lion of the Tribe of Judah, King of Kings, Elect of God.  Selassie was a very small man.  Most reports have his height at a mere 5’4″!
