Lee “Scratch” Perry & Terrorists “Guerilla Priest” 12 inch (1981)

Got a great LSP post-Black Ark dub and vocal that you will love.  In 1980, Perry teamed up with NYC ska outfit ‘Terrorists,’ producing two tracks for them, which were issued in limited quantity as a 12″ on Phil Fox’s Splif Rockers label in May 1981.  It is during his time in NYC in 1980-1981 that Perry performs quite regularly with the Terrorists.  This time period, and the Scratch antics to go with it, are discussed in  detail in David Katz’s book “People Funny Boy: The Genius of Lee Scratch Perry.”

Here is how David describes Scratch’s vocal on the B side version titled “Guerrilla Priest.”:

“Guerrilla Priest” is a “white smoke signal, seemingly about God’s many powers, delivered by Perry in the form of ‘Smokin’ Joe, Joseph The Hammer.’

Perry, being interviewed by a British journalist backstage at a LSP & Terrorists show in May 1981, explains his decision to work with a white reggae outfit:

“I want to change my life.  I work with the black so long and they give me a hard fight.I want to live a cool life, no problem, easy going.”

In true LSP style, the B side of this 12″ is as insane as anything you will hear from Perry.
