Black Uhuru Interview, Jamaica,1981

Most people are familiar with Black Uhuru’s “Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner,” the smash single from their 1980 self-titled LP.  However, Michael Rose first cut this tune in 1976 for Niney the Observer and Dennis Brown under the title “Dreadlocks Coming for Dinner.”  The Niney production features a different mix entirely.  It was issued as a 7″ single in Jamaica on the Obsersver label.  It was also issued in the UK on Dennis Brown’s Morpheus label and on the Oval imprint.

Black Uhuru featuring Michael Rose with Sly & Robbie cut a cover of Bob Marley’s “Sun Is Shining” in 1978.  It was issued that same year in Jamaica as a 7″ single on the Hitbound label and in the UK on the Carib Gems label.

Black Uhuru cut “Rent Man”/’Rent Board” for Dennis Brown in 1979.  It was issued as a 7″ on the Cash & Carry/DEB Music label.
