Rasta Pon Top MD #81 July 26th-27th, 1981 KTIM

A worldwide “Rita Marley & The Wailers reggae showcase tour” was an idea being broached in the summer of ’81 following Bob’s death that’s mentioned in this show filled with music Wailers’ guitarist Jr. Marvin just brought from JA including tracks he contributed to like Don Carlos’ “Crucial Situation” & Marcia Griffiths’ “Don’t Ever Leave Me”.

The Paragons infectious “Feelin Alright” off their brand new THE PARAGONS RETURN lp launches this excellent program that features a special Rastaman Camp summer break theme when the clock strikes midnight.

The Fabulous Five’s truly amazing and atmospheric “Oo? Wa?” 7″ premieres as does its dub side “Loafters” along with The Congo’s terrific top ranking foot long anthem “At The Feast” and the first single from UB40 to crack KTIM’s regular playlists and Midnight Dread, the riveting “Don’t Let It Pass You By”. An epic set of sounds from a time when that’s all that kept I and I going.

Hopeton James apogees the session with the fiery “Get Up Blackman” before UB40 sings “Burn two spliff & rock to the rhythm” and the vibes soar.

In last week’s Midnight Dread program Wailer’s lead guitarist JuniorMarvin waxes eloquently about his days with Bob Marley & The Wailers on tour & in the studio also featuring his new solo works cut at Tuff Gong. Dread-casting over the air since 1979 & online since 1996 dreader 21st Century Midnight Dread programs air daily at 12am including replays often heard in his Best of All Worlds high noon slot and where one can also become conscious at 6am with the indigenous sounds of Native Son Rising, all curated by Doug everyday, all times Pacific. Many more Midnight Dread sights & sounds here and on this blog’s Midnight Dread page.
