Raver Reviews: Damian “Jr. Gong” Marley’s “Nail Pon Cross” (2016)

Junior Gong decimates Black Uhuru’s “Solidarity” instrumental with the first single from his forthcoming album Stony Hill. A cautionary tale of the pitfalls of false accusal, “Nail Pon Cross” is perhaps Gong’s best work since “Welcome to Jamrock.” In his signature sing-jay delivery, he deconstructs the classic riddim in fine style, with a lyrical prowess that is unparalleled in today’s game. This tune is as good as gold from start to finish.

An interesting note about the original tune…“Solidarity,” which appears on the Grammy Award-winning album Anthem by Black Uhuru, was actually written by Steven “Little Steven” Van  Zandt of Bruce Springsteen’s E-Street Band.  Van Zandt is also famous for playing Silvio Dante in the popular HBO series The Sopranos.
