On the occasion of the anniversary of Alpha Cottage in Jamaica. Wake the world and tell the people!
On May 1, 1880, the doors of Alpha Cottage opened and the first children in need of a safe place to live became the first residents along with the founder, Jessie Ripoll, and three women who joined Ms Ripoll in the founding of the cottage. Since 1890, the cottage has been operated by the Religious Sisters of Mercy. Over the years, the cottage became ans Industrial School. Later it changed to a Boys School and now Alpha Institute.
Listen to alphaboysschoolradio.com anywhere and be a part of the celebration! Every song on the school radio features one or more past students from the school. #ABSRJA is your passport to Jamaican music and culture.
Known worldwide for its alumni who have earned national honours from the government of Jamaica and international honours including Grammy nominations for their contributions to music and culture, the school is, of course, more than music. In addition to off-set printing to woodworking, barbering and more, employers know Alpha students are good citizens too. And the Religious Sisters of Mercy make sure students know the importance of academic and personal skills to a successful career.
