Reggae/Dub/Roots/Culture

About

Welcome to the largest library of lossless (FLAC) roots reggae performances, recordings, and interviews on the web.

One of the few places to find Bob Marley and the Wailers lossless (FLAC) live performance audio by direct download.

The ONLY place to find KAZO lossless (FLAC) audio, including the historic, and recently revised (March 2012) “Black Vinyl Collection.”

My aim here is to collect and compile  historic and meaningful roots and culture reggae media including live performances, interviews, press clippings, appearances, and other media.  On this blog I share from my own collection live audio and video, press clippings, and more.  I also collect and compile the best roots reggae media from the web.

My sincere hope is that by the time I decide to put this blog to rest, it will stand as a significant repository and historical archive of the greatest cultural and musical movement of the last 50 years.

Photographs

With regard to photographs, I always perform due diligence in attempting to obtain permission to use a photograph.  If I cannot find and contact the photographer or copyright holder, and the photo is part of Google Images public domain database, I will post the photograph with the photographer’s name and a link to his/her website.  I post some photographs without any attached information.  These are photos that are circulated widely on the web, and are by now considered “public domain.”  Please keep in mind that every photo is shared as part of a larger narrative which tells the story of an artist for historical, educational, and/or commentary purpose.

If you hold the copyright to a displayed photograph, and would like it removed from the blog, please contact me at midnightraverblog@gmail.com and I will remove immediately and without question.

To any photographer who gives express permission to use a photo, or set of photos, to tell a story on this blog, I will include a link to your website in the Blogroll or on the sidebar menu.  The blog gets substantial traffic for a reggae blog, and you will see an increase in site visits if your link is included here.

To any artist or artist representative who owns copyright to any media file shared on this blog, please keep in mind that every media file is shared as part of a larger narrative which tells the story of an artist for historical, educational, and/or commentary purpose, bringing renewed and much needed attention to many of these often overlooked artists.  However, if for any reason you would like a media file removed from the blog, please contact me through midnightraverblog@gmail.com and I will remove the file immediately and without question.

Credits

There are several people who I must thank here because the blog would not exist if not for their assistance and continued support.  They are:

Rohan Marley, Cedella Marley, Roger Steffens, Dermot Hussey, Squidly Cole, Dubwise Garage, Fred from France, Marco Virgona, Emmanuel Parata, Jahcoustic Joe Jurgensen, KAZO, John Masouri, Lee Jaffe, Donald Kinsey, Fully Fullwood, Alex Marley, Josetxo Mintegi…

Anyway, enjoy this music while you can because it’s only a matter of time before the fascists shut me down, as they are doing with so many other share sites.

To all the haters who keep posting negative and vile comments, I will not subject the readers of this blog to your venom.  In other words, your comments will never be posted here.  Please email your complaints to midnightraverblog@gmail.com and we can discuss the issue like adults.

Forward!

  4. I often thought about starting a blog that brought the most core of Marley-ites together. I don’t need to now that I have found this site. You absolutely are doing a great job! JAH bless for sharing these rare recordings and interviews. Keep up the good work!

Thanks for sharing it with us…….i’am a fan from the mid 70′s and alway’s will be
Hoping to see and here many more new stuff, there is a rumour that the Lyceum concerts are not only taped but also filmed??
    Greetz from Holland

    • yes also the Rainbow ’77 shows have been filmed. Some of this footage is included in the new documentary. I have confirmed though that the Marley estate will be releasing no new material in 2012-2013. This stuff WILL see light eventually.

That is real good news, but it’s time also…tto long we as fans had too wait on new things from Bob Marley & the Wailers from who i hear for the first time in late 1975……No Woman no cry was the hit at the club in my town in Holland, and since that day i feld for the music and the message.
Now almost everyday looking on the web for new things.

I knew about the filming at the Lyceum because in had found a book at school with an review of the concert’s and they wrote that there was also a team from the television……and now almost 20 later i have the confirm.

I hope it will be in the theatre in the Netherlands.

    Thanks again

Love the site.I began buying “bootlegs” in the early 90′s for 50-100 bucks a cd.They were all import cd’s. I was young,no kids,in love with reggae.I spent everything on “her”.Burning Spear,Steel Pulse,
Israel Vibrations,Ziggy,Toots,The Melodians, & others used to come to New Orleans pretty regularly.Tipatina’s would be jam packed, herb everywhere, people having a good time. But I was born too late for Bob.I have an older cousin who saw him here at the Warehouse. He said they wet the carpet in the building during the show so that the smokers wouldn’t start a fire.I remember him crying when Bob died.Anyway,I’m glad this music is surfacing. With the message of peace, love & positivity, I’ve always wondered why this music gets no radio play.No concerts on BET or VH1.They force us underground.Oh well.Keep doing what you’re doing and I’ll keep supporting. Thanks 1

    Hello, again, Midnight Raver,

I left a comment about a couple of FLACs that I could not download, “The Wailers Rehearsal at Capitol Studios” or “Into The Matrix” and “Live at The Beacon Theatre in 1976″. Then, not expecting much to happen, I clicked the download link for the “Wailers Playing the Matrix, October 30, 1973″ — actually my first night ever in San Francisco (as I drove around the US having just arrived from the UK where Bob Marley had barely penetrated my consciousness just several weeks earlier), but little did I know! and I missed the show — anyway, bingo! down (or upful) the music came. I think the problem is that in the link after the “.com/” it says “download/” instead of “direct/”. There ought to be a Rasta version of html, all these “downs” need to be replaced!!!

Hope your life is irie and positive and this helps.

Fixed, many thanks. Know there’s many a slip ‘tween cup and lip doing this digi stuff. No worries.

  11. I DO NOT SHARE OFFICIAL RECORDINGS.

I WILL NEVER STEAL MONEY FROM THE POCKET OF AN ARTIST BY FREELY SHARING THEIR MUSIC ON THIS BLOG.

You seem to be violating your own rules with those KAZO downloads, especially the non-Marley ones are filled with tracks legally available via a variety of labels, many of which are small and struggle to survive.

    • I struggle with this and I appreciate your point. I am considering removing all a/b sides. However, there is a compelling argument that sharing these recordings in no way harms the artist or studio. I quote Kazo’s disclaimer: “A vinyl collector is first directed to … collect vinyl. When he buys a vinyl, he buys an object with a strong historical and sentimental content. There is the black disc, the artwork, the cover. It’s an object. He has got what he paid for. He has collected and he should be happy. What I’m doing is to circulate some binary data only. This data bears the music but it is the same than when I’m publishing a photograph of a museum art piece. You get the photo, you don’t get the piece. But, with the photo, you know what the piece is about, you see it. That is culture. With the music, it’s the same. You get the file, you can listen to the music but you don’t have the record. It is culture as well. Culture should be free.”

You also must consider that many, if not most, of these vinyl selections are no longer pressed. Many of the labels existed for only a short period of time 30 years ago. These records are now usually sold from collector to collector. I don’t see how this has a detrimental effect on the artist/label.

I understand your point, and I can identify with it. Like I said, I am considering removing, not for copyright reasons, but because I’m running out of space and I think the Marley BV is more appropriate to focus on.

    • When do you start considering promotion of music? I encourage people to share especially reggae because it doesn’t get radio time. I know Bob Marley cared more for his message than for personal gain!

      • I too consider what I do here the promotion of these artists. The ones I have had the pleasure of speaking with love what I do and have no problem with very rare items being shared. I mean, I would never share the Lee Perry box set, but I will share a track or two just to turn readers on to his music.

      • haleluJAH!

  12. While trying to figure out the lyrics for the Wailers song Jailhouse, I came across an expression: “dem peego a go lingua”.
I’ve searched for it in patois dictionaries and found nothing. I’m assuming “peego” means “people”, but the “lingua” part has me stumped.
I was wondering if you know what it means.

  13. Peace and Love! I love your blog. Jah live!
