Pick of the Week: Peter Tosh Live and Dangerous (Boston, 1976)
One of my very favorite Tosh performances, and one of the best live reggae recordings I’ve ever heard, the intro jamdown clocks in at over 5:00 and is pure vibe and genius – the best opening to any Tosh show, period. I assume that’s Al Anderson on the guitar solo? Holy shit that is heavy. This live recording was officially released in 2001 and has been a mainstay on my player ever since.
Steel Pulse Live at Montreux, 1979
Steel Pulse’s short set at the 1979 Montreux Jazz Festival includes several tunes from my favorite Steel Pulse album TRIBUTE TO THE MARTYRS – crucial roots album (produced by legendary Wailers engineer Karl Pitterson). Great set. Great sound.
Also, there is a detailed article about Steel Pulse from MUSICIAN MAGAZINE 1982.

Peter Tosh: My Father’s Place, Roslyn, NY, 1978 & 1979 (2 shows)
(-REPOST-)
I’m sharing these historic shows at the request of my friend Murray Elias from New York, who attended. Murray is a legendary figure in the world of reggae, being partially responsible for it’s success in taking hold in America in the 70s and 80s. He launched a now-legendary reggae radio show in Binghamton, NY – a show which is still broadcast today. He was also very influential in bringing dancehall to the urban massive in the U.S. More on Murray later…
Enjoy these shows. Two excellent soundboard recordings, one from 1978 and the other from 1979. The Bush Doctor performing at the historic Old Roslyn venue ‘My Father’s Place.’
Also included is a review of the 1978 show by Tony Kornheiser. The article was published in the July 30, 1978 edition of the New York Times.
